Your likely Resilience Level is on the Breakthrough
All Resilience Levels given are in relation to the Resilience Dynamic®.
Your resilience is at the highest level. You feel yourself in any context, and are flexible, open, resourceful and at ease, no matter where you are. Brilliant!
And you may have to support your resilience a lot to sustain this level, or at least near to it. Resilience will go up and down, even for those with very high resilience. It’s just about contexts changing.
Breakthrough – when things are really brilliant, stress is eliminated
This is the highest level of resilience. It’s where someone is adaptable, resourceful and energised (both persistent and motivated), no matter what the context is.
This is the kind of person that is them self no matter who they’re with, or where they are. They’re at ease. They are attentive. They are energetic. And they know what they’re about and what they need to keep themselves like this.
Here is where sustainable success takes off!
Remember that resilience is always dynamic so there may be new contexts with completely new stressors that need to be learnt about. That will mean that resilience can go back down the Whoosh towards Break Even. Knowing oneself however, and what has brought that person to Breakthrough before, is immensely helpful in enabling fast learning about how to achieve it in a new context. Confident that learning can happen again, and this accelerates resilience increase. Once at Breakthrough, it is easier to get back there.
Consider your purpose. Is it still the same as it was? Are you clear? Also consider how often you are learning? Do you need to do some new things to take you out of your comfort zone?
Explore the top resilience enablers:
- Being Present – Slow down often. It enables you to be calm and feel grounded. In skill terms, it enables you to notice more, to widen your perspective, to listen to yourself and to others, and therefore really ‘see’ what is happening. It also allows you to connect with your vision of what you want in any situation.
- Energy – Energy and resilience are directly correlated. They are not the same thing, but they follow the same ups and downs. Explore all elements of your energy: physical, emotional, mental and spiritual. For physical energy flex your exercise according to how you really feel; for emotional energy invest in one or two relationships that you have let go of; for mental energy practice mind-wandering and see how creative you can get; and finally for spiritual energy practice self-compassion.
- Learning – How you learn, not just what you learn. You have time not just to do-do-do, but to do-think-do-think. The real core to shifting way out to the higher levels of resilience resides in this core ability, to learn well. Still got stuff to learn in current context? Got a few triggers/hooks? Look at the truth of your reactions. Or bit stagnant? Step outside of your comfort zone. Do something zany!
- Purpose – This is about making the meaning in your life come alive day to day. It’s more than goals, it’s about enactment on the things you really care about. Purpose fosters the specific goals you have for yourself and your life, and these in turn, provide the direction of travel across your work and life. It can be really helpful for those experiencing a temporary blip in normally high resilience. By (re)connecting to your Purpose, you re-galvanise energy towards the important stuff of life that really matters Keep stretching goals towards your purpose. Is your purpose shifting?
