Your likely Resilience Level is Bounce Back
All Resilience Levels given are in relation to the Resilience Dynamic®.
You are able to really handle some tough challenges and bounce back from them. So, you’re not just coping, you might even thrive on some of the challenges!
Bounce back is a fairly high level of resilience. And sometimes, especially if there are too many challenges, your energies can get depleted. And you can shift back to Coping.
Understanding Bounce Back
A person in bounce back is usually a pretty high performer in life. And they are often busy-busy-busy! Often too busy. So, their energy goes up and down. They will still experience stressors and have learnt how to handle their stress reactions pretty well. So, they have already figured out how to recover from setbacks. They may have massive persistence to get through the issue but come out at the other end really tired! But overall, they get through it and return to some kind of normal.
The trouble with Bounce Back is that if there are too many setbacks close together, the energy to deal with them successfully is lost. And so, they move backwards to coping. Bounce back is inherently unstable because of the ups and downs involved. The ups are great, but the downs don’t feel good.
The way to shift this is to stabilise their energy. And to start to really consider what they find most meaningful in their life – their purpose.
First Steps
Explore the top resilience enablers:
- Being Present – Take some time to ‘be’ more. It enables you to be calm and feel grounded. In skill terms, it enables you to notice more, to widen your perspective, to listen to yourself and to others, and therefore really ‘see’ what is happening. It also allows you to connect with your vision of what you want in any situation.
- Energy – Consider how you might stabilise your energy. Energy and resilience are directly correlated. They are not the same thing, but they follow the same ups and downs. Explore all elements of your energy: physical, emotional, mental and spiritual. For physical energy get some exercise into your routine; for emotional energy say ‘no’ to something, start with what’s simple; for mental energy make some time for thinking and make it unnegotiable; and finally for spiritual energy connect with something you love, or used to love doing.
- Learning – Consider what you need to learn to feel at the higher end of your resilience more often, without the need for ‘pushing’ through things.
